  • Abstract:  Dasypeltis scabra is nocturnal and occurs throughout most of southern Africa (Marais, 2004). It occupies a variety of habitats and appears to be absent only from true deserts and closed-canopy forests (Branch, 1998; Alexander and Marais, 2007). They are known to feed exclusively on birds' eggs, displaying numerous adaptations for such, and are capable of climbing trees and rock faces in search of birds' nests (Branch, 1998; Alexander and Marais, 2007).
