  • Abstract:  Two additional species of short-horned grasshoppers (Orthoptera: Acridoidea, Caelifera), referable to the genus Eremidium Karsch, 1896 in the family Lentulidae, namely E. manicaense spec nov. and E. albaniense spec. nov., are described as new. The former species is the first representative of Eremidium to be recorded from Zimbabwe, thus broadening the known geographical distribution of this hitherto South African endemic into southern Africa. A trio of distinctive, related species collected from various forest habitats in the KwaZulu-Natal Province, South Africa, i.e. Silvanidium armstrongi spec. nov. from the Midland's mist belt, S. aculeatum spec. nov. from the inland escarpment zone and lastly, S. peninsulare spec nov. from the coastal belt are additionally assigned to a new and related taxon Silvanidium gen. nov., with S. armstrongi spec. nov. as its type species. All three last named species are differentiated by a combination of distinctive external morphological and genitalic features from Eremidium Karsch. Detailed differential diagnostic characters as well as identification keys and information on habitat preferences, field collection data and geographical distribution, together with a brief history of Eremidium, are provided.
