&lt;LI&gt;&lt;b&gt;Abstract:&lt;/b&gt; This article investigates the utility of combining critical discourse analysis with the framework of lingual primitives advanced by Weideman (2011), in a critical analysis of gender ideology in the women's lifestyle magazine &lt;i&gt;Cosmopolitan&lt;/i&gt;. More specifically, two elementary linguistic concepts are combined with the critical discourse analysis methodology in order to analyse a sample of feature articles from &lt;i&gt;Cosmopolitan&lt;/i&gt;. The results are illustrated on the basis of a case study that is representative of this larger sample. The findings suggest that the abuse of power in this magazine is best conceptualised as the abuse of lingual trust.
&lt;/LI&gt;&lt;LI&gt;&lt;b&gt;Abstract:&lt;/b&gt; &lt;b&gt;Linguale primitiewe en kritiese diskoersanalise : die geval van genderideologie in '&lt;i&gt;Cosmopolitan&lt;/i&gt;'&lt;/b&gt;&lt;br/&gt;Hierdie artikel ondersoek 'n wyse waarop kritiese diskoersanalisie gekombineer kan word met die raamwerk van linguale primitiewe as deel van 'n kritiese analiese van geslagsideologie in die vroue leefstyltydskrif &lt;i&gt;Cosmopolitan&lt;/i&gt;. Om meer spesifiek te wees, twee basiese taalkundige begrippe word gekombineer om 'n steekproef van artikels in &lt;i&gt;Cosmopolitan&lt;/i&gt; te analiseer. Die resultate word op die basis van 'n gevallestudie, wat verteenwoordigend is van hierdie groter steekproef, ge&amp;#239;llustreer. Die bevindinge dui daarop dat die misbruik van mag in hierdie tydskrif die beste gekonseptualiseer kan word as die misbruik van linguale vertroue.

&lt;LI&gt;&lt;b&gt;Abstract:&lt;/b&gt; Dilthey's emphasis on the relativity of world and life views inspired Spengler to speak of different worlds of number. Yet, within Greek culture, Greek mathematics switched from arithmeticism to a geometrisation of mathematics. Since the Renaissance the ideal of sovereign human reason, which viewed human understanding as the (&lt;i&gt;a priori&lt;/i&gt; formal) law-giver of nature, gave rise to the notion of construction. Avoiding the stance of both Platonism and constructivism, an acknowledgement of the ontic status of numbers (in their distinctness and succession), accounted for in terms of the distinction between law and subject, illustrates the influence of an underlying world view.

Nogtans het daar binne die Griekse kultuur 'n verskuiwing van aritmetisisme na 'n geometrisering by die wiskunde ingetree. &lt;LI&gt;&lt;b&gt;Abstract:&lt;/b&gt; The continuous professional development of teachers is vital for the well-being of any education system. This article reflects on the adoption and implementation of the National Curriculum Statement with its outcomes-based education approach by teachers who returned to teaching after having been out of the education system for a number of years. Systems theory was used as a theoretical framework for this research. The research was done in 2010, with follow-up interviews during 2012 to include the Curriculum and Assessment Policy Statement. These teachers responded to 12 items in an open-ended questionnaire on issues related to the changing curriculum and professional development as part of the education system. The article suggests that the professional development of teachers (in particular those who have been out of the system for some years) needs to be improved in order to ensure that the new curriculum is adopted and does not remain merely a policy document that is inefficiently implemented in its entirety.
&lt;/LI&gt;&lt;LI&gt;&lt;b&gt;Abstract:&lt;/b&gt; &lt;b&gt;Insigte vanaf terugkerende onderwysers se blootstelling aan kurrikulumverandering en professionele ontwikkeling&lt;/b&gt;&lt;br/&gt;Voortdurende professionele ontwikkeling van onderwysers is noodsaaklik vir die welstand van enige opvoedkundige stelsel. In hierdie artikel word gereflekteer oor die aanvaarding en implementering van die Nasionale Kurrikulumverklaring, met sy uitkomsgebaseerde onderwys-benadering, deur onderwysers wat, nadat hulle vir 'n aantal jare uit die onderwysstelsel was, teruggekeer het om weer skool te hou. Die sisteemteoretiese benadering is as teoretiese raamwerk vir hierdie navorsing gebruik. Die navorsing is in 2010 gedoen, met opvolgonderhoude in 2012, wat voorsiening gemaak het vir die Kurrikulum en Assesseringsbeleid-benadering. Hierdie onderwysers het gerespondeer op 12 items in 'n oop vraelys, rakende kwessies oor kurrikulumverandering en professionele ontwikkeling as deel van die onderwysstelsel. Daar word aanbeveel dat professionele ontwikkeling van onderwysers (veral vir diegene wat vir 'n aantal jare uit die stelsel was) verbeter behoort te word, ten einde te verseker dat die nuwe kurrikulum aanvaar word en nie slegs 'n beleidsdokument bly, wat nie effektief in sy geheel ge&amp;#239;mplementeer word nie.

&lt;LI&gt;&lt;b&gt;Abstract:&lt;/b&gt; This article aims to investigate the challenges associated with understanding the instructions in the Common Tasks for Assessment (CTA) by a Grade 9 mathematics class of second-language English speakers. The design of the CTA was such that a series of tasks was set using an extended context. The Flesch-Kincaid readability test judged the instructions of some tasks to be beyond the readability levels of an average Grade 9 learner. Some instructions had high lexical density, showing that these were difficult to understand. It is recommended that education authorities note the challenges associated with contextualised assessment such as the CTA, and ensure that the challenges associated with understanding instructions in national assessment should not outweigh the benefits of accessing the mathematics in different settings.
&lt;/LI&gt;&lt;LI&gt;&lt;b&gt;Abstract:&lt;/b&gt; &lt;b&gt;Leer vanuit vorige ervarings : die leesbaarheid van nasionale wiskundetake&lt;/b&gt;&lt;br/&gt;Hierdie artikel ondersoek die uitdagings wat die instruksies in die Gemeenskaplike Assesseringstaak (CTA) vir Wiskunde bied aan Graad 9-leerders met Engels as addisionele taal. Die assesseringstaak is so ontwerp dat leerders 'n aantal take binne 'n uitgebreide konteks moes uitvoer. Volgens die Flesch-Kincaid leesbaarheidstoets, is sommige instruksies by die take bokant die vermo&amp;#235; van die gemiddelde Graad 9-leerder. Die leksikale digtheid van sommige instruksies het getoon dat die instruksie baie moeilik was om te begryp. Daar word aanbeveel dat die onderwysowerhede kennis moet neem van die uitdagings verbonde aan sulke gekontekstualiseerde assessering en moet verseker dat die uitdaging om die instruksies in nasionale assesseringstake te verstaan nie die voordeel verbonde aan die assessering van wiskundige vaardigheid in verskillende kontekste oorskadu nie.

&lt;LI&gt;&lt;b&gt;Abstract:&lt;/b&gt; It is internationally accepted that music entrepreneurship presents an alternative form of employment for music graduates. The question that inadvertently arises concerns the suitability of this occupation for musicians. During this study, musicians and successful music entrepreneurs were interviewed in order to identify their critical personality traits. These were compared with the documented personality traits of entrepreneurs and the findings showed a strong correlation between the character traits of both groupings, but with critical differences apparent. The article presents a typology of personality traits and concludes that not all musicians are suited to a career in music entrepreneurship.
&lt;/LI&gt;&lt;LI&gt;&lt;b&gt;Abstract:&lt;/b&gt; &lt;b&gt;Persoonlikheidseienskappe van suksesvolle musiek-entrepreneurs&lt;/b&gt;&lt;br/&gt;Daar word internasionaal aanvaar dat musiekentrepreneurskap 'n alternatiewe beroeps-geleentheid aan gegradueerde musiekstudente bied. Die vraag wat onwillekeurig ontstaan is of alle musikante geskik is vir hierdie tipe loopbaankeuse. Tydens hierdie studie is onderhoude gevoer met musici en suksesvolle musiekentrepreneurs in 'n poging om vas te stel watter persoonlikheidseienskappe as noodsaaklik beskou kan word om suksesvol te wees as entrepreneur. Laasgenoemde eienskappe is vergelyk met gedokumenteerde persoonlikheidseienskappe van entrepreneurs en die be-vindinge het sterk ooreenkomste getoon asook kritieke verskille. 'n Tipologie van persoonlikheidseienskappe is hieruit ontwikkel en een van die gevolgtrekkings van die studie was dat alle musikante nie geskik is vir 'n loopbaan as musiekentrepreneur nie.

&lt;LI&gt;&lt;b&gt;Abstract:&lt;/b&gt; In 2000, the National Minister of Education mandated the inclusion of school-based assessment (SBA) as a component of the Senior Certificate (Grade 12) assessment. This study examines how managing the moderation of SBA could improve the quality of assessment at Grade 12 level. The literature study elucidates the underlying dimensions of managing SBA and the quantitative study investigates the perceptions of educators regarding these dimensions. The findings are consolidated into an enhanced model that calls for continuous moderation of assessment tasks at school level, based on the principles of systems theory.
&lt;/LI&gt;&lt;LI&gt;&lt;b&gt;Abstract:&lt;/b&gt; &lt;b&gt;Die bestuur van moderering van skoolgebaseerde assessering op Graad 12-vlak in Gauteng&lt;/b&gt;&lt;br/&gt;Die Minister van Onderwys het in 2000 die insluiting van skoolgebaseerde assessering (SGA) as integrale komponent van die Nasionale Senior Sertifikaat op Graad 12-vlak deur wetgewing verpligtend gemaak. Hierdie navorsingsprojek poog om aan te toon hoe die bestuur van moderering die kwaliteit van assessering op Graad 12-vlak kan verbeter. Die literatuurstudie het die onderliggende dimensies van SGA uitgeklaar en ondersoek deur van 'n kwantitatiewe navorsingsontwerp gebruik te maak ten einde onderwysers se persepsies aangaande die onderhawige assesseringsdimensies te bepaal. Die bevindinge is vervat in die ontwerp van 'n unieke assesseringsmodel, gebaseer op die fundamentele kenmerke van stelselteorie, wat die effektiwiteit van kwaliteitsversekering en moderering van kontinue-assesseringstake sal bevorder.

&lt;LI&gt;&lt;b&gt;Abstract:&lt;/b&gt; This article applies spatial multiple criteria evaluation (MCE) by weighted linear combination of factor layers in a computerised geographical information system (GIS) to aid development of spatial policy and planning of cultural and food and wine tourism in the Western Cape. It explains spatial tourism development policy, tourism marketing and expressed tourist preferences that translate into suitability indicators or attraction features for capture in a spatial resource database. Two sets of tourism attractions are conceptually defined, captured in spatial format as mapped variables and statistically weighted for MCE modelling. The fine-scale outcomes in map format allow comparisons to be made of the effects of variable MCE execution rules for the two products. The application can be replicated for entrepreneurial and regulatory planning.
&lt;/LI&gt;&lt;LI&gt;&lt;b&gt;Abstract:&lt;/b&gt; &lt;b&gt;Voedsel vir liggaam en gees : toerisme-ontwikkelingsgeleenthede in die Wes-Kaap&lt;/b&gt;&lt;br/&gt;Die artikel pas ruimtelike multikriteria-evaluering (MKE) toe deur die line&amp;#234;re kombinering van faktoroorlegte in 'n gerekenariseerde geografiese inligtingstelsel (GIS) vir die ontwikkeling van ruimtelike beleid en beplanning rakende kultuur- en voedsel- en wyntoerisme in die Wes-Kaap. Ruimtelike beleid vir toerisme-ontwikkeling en -bemarking en verklaarde toeristevoorkeure word benut om geskiktheidsaanwysers vir opname in 'n ruimtelike databasis van verskynsels te ondervang. Twee stelle toerisme-attraksies word konseptueel as veranderlikes gedefinieer, gekarteer en statisties geweeg vir MKE-modellering. Die produk is fynskaalkaarte vir die twee toerismeprodukte nadat MKE uitgevoer is volgens beredeneerde toepassingsre&amp;#235;ls en laat vergelyking van die twee produkte toe. Die toepassing kan elders herhaal word vir ondernemer- en reguleringsbeplanning.

&lt;LI&gt;&lt;b&gt;Abstract:&lt;/b&gt; The increasing number of tourists to South African national parks raises concern about the effect these tourists have on the environment. This article aims to investigate how SANParks manage environmentally friendly South African national parks in order to reduce the impact of tourism on the environment. To examine these concerns, a survey was conducted to measure tourists' perceptions of the environmental impacts of tourism in these parks. A web-based survey was carried out via the official SANParks website to collect data. The findings of this study will help SANParks to manage the environmental impacts of tourism in the national parks more effectively.
&lt;/LI&gt;&lt;LI&gt;&lt;b&gt;Abstract:&lt;/b&gt; &lt;b&gt;Toeriste se persepsies rakende of Suid-Afrikaanse nasionale parke omgewingsvriendelik is&lt;/b&gt;&lt;br/&gt;Stygende getalle toeriste wat reis na Suid-Afrikaanse nasionale parke wek kommer rakende die effek wat hierdie toeriste op die omgewing het. Die artikel beoog om ondersoek in te stel na hoe omgewingsvriendelik SANParke bestuur word, sodat die impak wat toerisme op die omgewing het, verminder kan word. Ten einde hierdie kwessie te bestudeer, is 'n opname gedoen om die persepsies van toeriste wat betref die impak van toerisme op nasionale parke in Suid-Afrika te meet. Data is versamel deur middel van 'n opname op die webtuiste van SANParke. Die resultate van hierdie studie sal die bestuur van SANParke help om die impak van toerisme op die omgewing in Suid-Afrikaanse nasionale parke meer effektief te bestuur.

&lt;LI&gt;&lt;b&gt;Abstract:&lt;/b&gt; Memory after violent conflict is a contentious issue. The way in which the past has been remembered has often been the impetus for renewed violence rather than healing and reconciliation. Exploring individual and collective memory in the Rwandan and South African contexts, this article argues that how we remember is more important than what we remember, if the process of remembering is to contribute positively to the post-conflict recovery process. This article considers some preliminary thoughts related to memory after violent conflict by comparing how South Africa and Rwanda have remembered their violent pasts. A significant difference between these two countries is that South Africa has allowed for contending narratives about the past to be in dialogue with one another, whereas Rwanda has chosen the route of preferring one narrative over others. Some possible implications of this will be explored in this article.
&lt;/LI&gt;&lt;LI&gt;&lt;b&gt;Abstract:&lt;/b&gt; &lt;b&gt;Genesing en versoening na gewelddadige konflik : die rol van herinnering in Suid-Afrika en Rwanda&lt;/b&gt;&lt;br/&gt;Die aard van herinnering na afloop van gewelddadige konflik is 'n omstrede onderwerp. Die wyse waarop die verlede onthou word, is meermale die oorsaak van hernude geweld eerder as herstel en versoening. Hierdie artikel ondersoek individuele en kollektiewe herinnering in die konteks van Rwanda en Suid-Afrika en daar word geargumenteer dat die wyse waarop onthou word belangriker is as dit wat onthou word. Dit is veral van belang indien die proses van onthou 'n positiewe bydrae moet maak tot die herstelproses na afloop van die konflik. Enkele voorlopige idees met betrekking tot herinnering na 'n gewelddadige konflik sal oorweeg word deur 'n vergelyking te tref tussen die wyse waarop Suid-Afrika en Rwanda onderskeidelik hul gewelddadige verledes onthou. 'n Veelseggende verskil tussen die twee lande is die feit dat Suid-Afrika kontrasterende narratiewe oor die verlede toelaat om in gesprek te tree met mekaar, terwyl Rwanda een narratief verkies bo andere. Enkele implikasies hiervan sal in die artikel verken word.
