Author:
Kitissou, Marcel

Vol 10 Issue 1

Publication: 2013

Page: 7-8

Abstract: Geographically, the Sahel is located in the northern part of the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) where incoming solar radiation and the NE and SE trade winds meet. Thus, the region is highly susceptible to the impact of climate change.

Page: 9-27

Abstract: Once again, this time in the Sahara-Sahel, West Africa is witnessing another in the long train of sanguinary conflicts financed and fueled by predatory criminal activity upon the very people in whose name and whose 'liberation' the war is supposedly being waged.

Mali, France and the war on terror in Africa : is there an imminent threat of terrorism from West Africa?

Author:
Campbell, Horace

Vol 10 Issue 1

Publication: 2013

Page: 29-55

Abstract: 'Imminent threat' is a term used in international law to justify a preemptive military strike. This concept of imminent threat had been articulated prior to the war against the people of Iraq by the George W Bush Administration when the peoples of the world were bombarded with information that Saddam Hussein possessed Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD). Ten years after the destruction of Iraq with millions killed or displaced, we now know that the case for war had been presented with dubious evidence.

Foreign military intervention : reference to the Sahel Region of Africa

Author:
Ohanwe, Augustine C.

Vol 10 Issue 1

Publication: 2013

Page: 57-75

Abstract: Political turbulence and swift foreign military intervention have engulfed the Sahel Region of Africa in recent times. The study aims at admonishing Africa to tighten her girdle and reassert her full influence on the continent. Realizing that the word, 'intervention' has varied interpretations, the author dissects the term and places it within the legal and political propriety, before relating it to the on-going interventions in the Sahel Region.

Author:
Adibe, Jideofor

Vol 10 Issue 1

Publication: 2013

Page: 109-114

Abstract: The recent transition of literary giant Albert Chinualumogu Achebe has led to an uncommon outpouring of encomiums. Achebe's transition came less than a year after his last major work, THERE WAS A COUNTRY: A Personal History of Biafra (2012) has stirred controversy in the country. His critics argued that the work diminished him from being Nigeria's gift to the literary world to an 'Igbo-phile'.
