By participating in the archive, publishers grant Sabinet Gateway a license to digitise, host and provide free Internet access to their collection by means of electronic technologies. The publisher retains all copyright over the intellectual content of the material.

Free digitisation

There is no charge to the publisher for digitising their publications from the first available issue (if available). In addition to enabling access to formerly non-electronic sources, Sabinet Gateway  provides each participating publisher/organization with their digitised material in PDF format including optical character recognition, and in TIFF format for preservation purposes.

• Free access for the publisher / societies’ members to the publication’s own searchable collection via the Archive’s website including full search capabilities and downloads via the website.
• Free hosting on an integrated web-based platform shared with leading cross-disciplinary and cross-country collections from Africa.
• Free access and exposure of the journal content to users in Africa and the world.

Comprehensive research into African scholarly work, both continentally and internationally provides:

• Accessibility for contributors to their own research information.
• International exposure for African researchers’ work.
• Better utilisation of publically funded research.
• Exposure for African research institutes creating opportunities for future donor funding.
• Linking and interoperability with other digital collections.
• Discovery of titles included in the Archive may lead to subscriptions for current issues.
• Electronic access to the publication increases accessibility for teachers, researchers, scholars, students   and professional bodies both in Africa and internationally.
• Access for the publisher to usage statistics for future publication planning, distribution and funding.
